I drink a lot of instant hot chocolate, but on snow days, when the kids are out playing in the snow and I know they’ll come in chilled through, I take the time and make this version from scratch. This last winter was so rough around here, I started making it in bulk.
- 3 cups cocoa powder
- 3 cups sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 6 tsp cinnamon
- 3/4 tsp cloves
- 3/4 tsp nutmeg
Mix this together and store.
To make the cocoa batch:
Add 1/2 cup mix to 1 cup of boiling water over a double boiler. Let the chocolate melt and simmer for a few minutes to smooth out. Add 3 cups of milk and simmer to heat. DON’T let it boil!!! This makes 4 cups of rich hot cocoa to chase away those winter chills.
