My mother loved to take this one to potlucks. She would sit for hours and make sure each piece of broccoli was cut exactly the same as all of the others. I’ve made it on my own and do not have the luxury of careful cutting. Just chop it up and toss it together — it tastes just as wonderful.
- 2 bunches of broccoli tops
- 1 lb of bacon fried, drained and crumbled
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1 cup sunflower seeds
- 4 green onions
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tsp vinegar
- 1/4 cup sugar
- tiny bit of milk
Mix the mayo, vinegar, sugar and milk together to form a dressing. Chop up the onions and broccoli and toss all of it together in a bowl. Chill.
They make this at my local grocery store in the deli section. They use more of the broccoli than my mother did. It isn’t as pretty as hers, but it is higher in iron!
